Back in December last year I posted some longboarding images for critique here.

As you can see down the thread Fredo encouraged me to send one of them to a mag so I quietly removed the shot and sent it in. It was my first submission and after two months I got a call from Australian Longboarding Mag saying it was gonna be run and they loved it. Six odd months later it finally got to print, haha. But......they ran it as a DPS and it is my first published image.

They took my edit and it came up great. The rider is only 13 and was obviously amped with it. So stoke all round.

Props to Fredo and I guess this is a lesson in not being afraid to submit something if you think it is good enough.

definitely a very cool shot and came out so well in print. Should be a good one to look back on when you're an old geezer.
I've just had a similar experience. Alex Turoy recently came to NZ and scored dinner plates on with a few pros form OZ. I shot a bit from land, not to snipe but just for memories. Then Alex hit me up a week ago saying i should submit those shots. He said he was cool with it so I did and should have my first published shot in a few weeks. I am feeling the SPU love right now.

I remember that one. Great shot. I can't believe thats your first published shot. Would have thought you were a regular contributor for mags.

On another interesting note, the cover of that issue of ALB was shot with a GoPro. When I get back to home base I might post it up. I'm sure there is a solid discussion waiting to happen on GoPros being used for covers?

Thanks for the comments, can't wait to see your work in print other Ed.

Somebody give Coops a job as an editor.

I saw a Go Pro shot used in NCIS LA the other week. I could spot that flare from miles away. It was seamless though. I guess the point is that quality usually (and should in my opinion) come second to to content. Same with stills. If the action is good and it's good composition, I don't really care what it's shot on.

I was doing a shoot with Harley Ingelby (on cover) earlier this week and asked him about that cover.

Turns out he pretty much just did filming with it and that photo was the VERY FIRST wave that he tried photos with. Bastard.
Imagine that, first photo you've taken, cover. Ha, good on him I say!

Not bad considering he is a Go pro rep, he get a cover of him to please his sponsors and he also gets paid for the cover.
